English Language Skills Assessment

R has finally received paperwork to enroll as a student at USP. Today he's taking USP's compulsory ESLA test. Which is pretty funny as he's a native speaker. I took a look at the sample questions and actually found them to be confusing because it's testing a lot of things that as a native speaker I don't even consciously think about, and therefore get turned around when I do. Plus I think the selections for reading comprehension are poorly written.

R surely will pass this test. Do Fijians speak English with an accent and poor grammar?

Sorry i missed R's call today,

I am glad to hear things are going well. You aren't missing much here, unless you like constant cold rain. I wish L and I were there visiting right now. I can't afford it this month, maybe in a while after the coup has ended there. We watched a terrible Mormon propaganda film where this mission kid from Idaho goes to Fiji then tonga. To save all the savages from eternal hellfire, and to teach them how to react correctly to a hurricane. Do they get hurricane training in the interior west? Anyway, i watched most of it purely for the scenery behind the nonsensical storyline. Take care you two.

Hi I just wanted to say how useful I've found your blog. Really interesting and gives a good idea of what life is like for an expat over there. I used to live in Suva as a child and am thinking of moving back over there. I'd be interested to know about the job market and house prices - what did you pay for your apartment?

Thanks for the comment. I found that when I was planning on moving here, information about Fiji that wasn't just turist related was hard to find. That was one of the reasons I started this blog and am glad you're finding it useful.

send me an e-mail campbell_rose@yahoo.com I'd be happy to chat. Where are you living these days?
